What's the difference between API6A and API 6D valves

API 6D and API 6A are both used as standards for valves in the oil and gas sector. API 6D is the standard for valves in pipelines, such as in rigs, platforms, skids and production plants. API 6A is the specification for valves used in wellhead equipment and Christmas tree accessories . In terms of usage, there are many more pipeline valves used as compared to wellhead valves. When it comes to ease of manufacture, pipeline valves are more easily manufactured as comparedto wellhead valves. As for pressure rating, the most common rating for API 6D valves are from 150LB to 2500LB. And API 6A valves are pressure rated for 2000LB up to 20000LB,i.e.2000LB, 3000LB, 5000LB, 10000LB, 15000LB, and 20000LB. Generally, the pressure rating for API 6A valves is higher than API 6D valves, after all, they are usually used in harsher working conditions. XIAMEN TAVAL VALVES INDUSTR...

Components of a Wellhead

If you work in the oil industry, you probably came into contact with the wellhead at some point. However, many people do not know the main components of the wellhead. Read on to learn about the main components of the wellhead. Casing Components There are three main parts of the casing: the head, the spool and the hanger. The casting head is used to help isolate the surface casing from all external factors. The head also helps to support the weight of workers while drilling. A casing spool usually consists of several strings, but certain ones have only one string sometimes. During drilling, the casing spool works as an additional sealing device. There are two types of casing hanger : slip and mandrel. When the pipe gets stuck, the worker will install the sliding hanger , then you can replace the sliding hanger after cutting the casing. If threading on the wellhead is convenient to use, mandrel hanger is the preferable choice. Tubing Components The tubing a...

The Difference Between Wellhead and Christmas Tree

Oilfield Xmas tree and Wellhead are two distinct devices but with several things in common. For instance, they are both of great importance of oil and natural gas production; Valves and other equipment appear in both devices to help control and guide the flow of materials. Out of their similarities, they are often used as the same thing. But, they are two distinct pieces of equipment as mentioned before. To better figure out the differences between these two, keep reading, please. Xmas Tree The Christmas tree, which usually constitutes of valves, spools, choke coils and accessories, is named out of it looks like the decorated tree for Christmas celebration. There are five valves in a Christmas tree: the Kill Wing valve, the Swab valve, the production wing valve, the upper master valve, and the lower master valve. Christmas could be found in a wide range of wells including oil wells, gas wells, water disposal wells, water injection wells, gas injection wells, and sev...

Types of Christmas Tree In Oilfield

The world's energy sources are either renewable or non-renewable. Oil falls on the second kind of one. Initially, the crude oil extracted from the underground is actually a compound with oil, water, sand, salt, and natural gas. During the extracting process, these materials have to be maintained at the right pressure by the open and shutoff of a series of valves on the ground. The assembly composed by these valves is usually in red and named after the ‘Christmas tree’ on the ground of its resemblance to the pine decorated during the Christmas holiday. The words ‘ Christmas Tree ’ and ‘ Wellhead ’ are both used as synonymous at times; however, Xmas tree and wellhead are two distinct devices but with several things in common. For instance, they are both of great importance for oil and natural gas production; Valves and other equipment appear in both devices to help control and guide the flow of materials. Out of their similarities, they are often used as the same thi...
